One of the best things about the Mountain Mag system is this. We do not force you into a proprietary phone case.

That keeps your total system cost lower and gives you freedom. You can use the case you already love, or choose the style and protection level that fits your life, slim, rugged, minimalist, whatever you prefer.

We just need to make sure it is built correctly.

For Mountain Mag to align perfectly with your camera and lock in securely, your case must properly follow the MagSafe standard.

That means it must include a full MagSafe circular magnet ring and the MagSafe alignment magnet, the small vertical magnet below the ring. The ring provides holding strength. The alignment magnet locks rotation so your adapter snaps into the exact position needed to line up perfectly with your camera.

iPhone Cases

For iPhones, any reputable case manufacturer will work great as long as the case clearly states MagSafe compatibility.

Examples of reputable brands include UAG, D Brand, Pitaka, Mouse, Moment, OtterBox, Nomad, ETC.

These manufacturers follow Apple’s MagSafe placement specifications closely, which ensures proper alignment and strong magnetic engagement.

If you are looking for a cheap Amazon case, we highly recommend Spigen. We have thoroughly vetted Spigen cases and have found that they follow the MagSafe standard perfectly. Their cases are relatively inexpensive, very effective, and built with real quality.

Android Cases

Android devices do not have native MagSafe built in, so magnet placement matters even more.

For proper wireless charging and correct Mountain Mag alignment, the magnetic ring needs to sit directly over the phone’s wireless charging coil. If it is off center, you may experience weak charging or imperfect alignment.

For Android, we consistently recommend UAG, Rokform.

Both brands position their magnets correctly and provide strong magnetic engagement.

Before purchasing a case, confirm it clearly states MagSafe compatible, it includes both the magnet ring and alignment magnet, and the manufacturer follows proper MagSafe specifications.
